In February 2012, Aplin signed a record deal with Parlophone and began recording her debut album. She gained mainstream attention the following November when she was selected to soundtrack a John Lewis television commercial with a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "The Power of Love", which charted at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in December 2012.Her music contains lyrics of personal and relatable scenarios and normal more slow tempo music to create a heartfelt atmosphere.

I also feel this artist will suit my target audience as she is in my age bracket this being ages 15-25 as she is 23 years old. My artist is known as a singer songwriter and alternative pop writer and these genres are very up and coming to the charts with the likes of ed sheeran making her well suited to this audience.I also believe my artist to matches conventions of my audience and makes him relatable by the way she looks in jeans, print T-shirts or dresses . The language she uses in my chosen song has no explicit language meaning its expectable for a wide range of people.
Here are the lyrics to the song, the language used is simple and rateable and the situations described i believe we can all find a situation we have been in that's similar to this. As you will see the lyrics to me reflects the idea of loosing something or someone beyond amend. The loosing of what is left to the listeners imagination. For example the lines I've added to the lyrics in red is what is left to question potentially by the audience
I've been awake for days
Eyes to feel like I'm asleep
Stuck inside an empty dream
Question if this is even real whats real?
Cliché away for me to feel
Unfinished messages to send
Told you I never want to end
I watched you break yourself in two
I tried to give me half
And I seemed to wonder what it takes
To work, to make this last... for what to last?
Only two more days,
To kill the mess we made what mess?
And give the lion something to hunt for
'Cause now the ace is played
The jester and the queen of spades
There's nothing left for us to hope for
And I'd run to the furthest place I need to,
Just to hear you laugh,
'Cause I need to find out how it feels,
To be broken in two halves...
Oh, oh,
Whoa, oh, oh...
And do you think I run out on you now?
'Cause we're still young if we pretend
Can we go back to when, broken things,
Only needed plasters, to mend...
Lets stay awake for hours
Just like we did back then
When you draw pictures on my hands
In permanent marker pen
We watched the sun go down
But never fear the end
'Cause I know that when in darkness
we are more than friends...
