using final cut pro

I used Final Cut Pro to edit my music video. This was to give it a professional outcome due to this software being used in the industry. The blade tool allowed me to cut each clip accurately. The filters I used over my footage was dessert glare and faded sun, these to give my video a sombre atmosphere. I found Final Cut Pro very useful in creating my music video

These arethe four questions i have to answer for my coursework about my music video.I will be showing all i have learned and done over the past two years of coursework.Final cut pro will be the software i use to complete this task,along with quick time player to record the clips on screen.

I have looked at a few music video that our similar genre to mine.I have found that not all music video have any title at the start at all but the ones i did find all had white lettering.This meant i would follow conventions and use a simple white font like the real music videos i looked at.But use the same font that linked to my ancillary texts. However i did want to challenge convention by placing my artists name to the side of the frame. This to show the artist next to her name, creating a link so the audience know who she was. 

Computer problem

 As I was editing my evaluation together the computer I was using crashed and Was taken away to be repared. Unfortunately this  meant that not only my evaulation  but also my other parts of my coursework on the desktop was gone. Therefore I could not show these in my evaluation.  But I am currently working on redoing my evaluation with what I still have from this blog and then re doing the rest the best I can.

How i created my Advert

I created my advert in similar ways to my digi pak in In design to allow the audience to see the connection between the two of them.I used the same image as the digi pak and used synced fonts aswell to keep a structure of themes.

 These are the two different types of font i used throughout they are very popular in the industry as they are simple and sleek fonts:

I added a black boarder to the top and bottem of the screen to allow text and additional information.Also real advert also include this black bar. An example of this is Jessie Js advert.

I also added social media icons,release date and QR code as these can allow fans to know more about the album and allow them to follow the artist on social media.

How i created my digi pak

I used In Design to create my digi pak because this software is used in industry and i wanted the digi pak to look as professional as possible.When i first started using this software it was quite difficult to understand how it worked but i soon understood how to work everything correctly.

I looked into to other artists digi paks and most female artists have cover photo which is a head shot as i have done on my front page. Follwed by using glitter on the other pages and an eye shot of my artist on the middles pages. The glitter images i found online thereforei had to photo shop them in order to fit the pinkish theme of my album.

 I used photo shop to create the look i wanted for my digi pack.There for i recoloured the glitter by using changing the colour on the slider to the colour that matched my original recoloured image of my artist.

 I wanted to add a personalised touch to my digi pak.Therefore i created a signature for artist.I used photo shop to do this.I set the document as transparent so its back ground would fit to its glitter back ground. I used the pencil tool to create the effect of an auto graph on the page.

I then inserted text within the the lines of my pages to ensure it was symmetrical to all other text to ensure it looked professional as possible. In the image above you can see the different coloured lines to ensure both pages match.

Further video inspiration

 I watched imagine dragons music video to there song Roots. its about going back and reflecting and learning about the past. This is similar to my video where my artist is singing about the how things have changed due to time.In my video i want to show going back in time as a memory and i believe this video has helped me see how to lay out the shots but also show the different ways of looking back.

Advert research

I have looked at what current artists similar to kasey Fox contain in an advert for there album. Jessie J is a single female pop type artist, like my artist Kasey Fox. Therefore I have analysed Jessie J's digi pak front cover to her advert and as you can see there are clear links between the two.

This is Adeles Album cover in the left hand corner and the big picture is her advert that featured in a magazine. She is a similar artist once again to Kasey Fox and it shows also strong links of theme from digi pak to advert. This using the same images from a photo shoot in black and white along with the same font and colouring of text.


After doing some research I have decided that I will be using the imagine from my digi pak for the front cover of my advert. This is to show the clear link in store for people but also to keep the identity of the artist the same.

I have created an advert to support my Artists new Album. I have used the picture on my digi pak to show the clear link of the album to the advert.I have also included other things like date of release,social media links and title,like real adverts that artists release.

This is my digi pak for my Artists album - Amend. I have used In Design to ensure this digi pak is of professional quality. I have created this digi pak to tell people about my arstist with breif history. Followed by up coming events the artist will perform at.As well as inclusing the lyrics to the song of my music video and a thank you from the artist. The back page has list of songs on the alum alog with other information like barcode.I have tried to make this digi pak as real as ones on the market today.My research into digi paks helped me to ensure i got the best possible outcome for this.

I have created social media pages for my artist, to promote herself to the public about upcoming events,songs,albums ect like artists do all over the world.

Marketing ideas

I had a looked into how my artist Gabrielle Aplin connects to her fan base via the internet and social media, to allow me to see how I can promote my song, artist and video and to also ensure it appeals to my target audience .


She has a verified twitter account that she updates herself showing fans into her life through messages and pictures.This can allow fans to feel close to the artist almost like there friends. There are millions of people on twitter making this a free media platform to help her to promote herself and widen her audience.

She also uses facebook as a platform to allow fans to be updated on her and her work. Both these social media platforms allow her promote and advertise herself.In both these photos it mentions her new album that's out with a link on where to buy it.

GabrielleAplin.co.uk is her website informing the public on her and her work. Everything Aplin can be seen here through event updates,videos and more.

Here is her youtube channel also helping fan acess her music videos.

Her instagram account shows fans into her life for example her dog which is show allows people to see how she lives and what she likes.

I will be making some social media accounts for my artist to allow Kasey Fox to gain a fan base.

Re thinking ideas

I have decided after looking at my footage on final cut pro i feel i could do a better job with my filming.This being how i fill my frame and what is the focus of it. I need to look at more music videos to see how to make my video the best it can be.I will be looking at a variety of videos and what camera angles they use to create interesting footage.

Meaning of the lyrics

I have filmed the majority of my music video and I am beginning to think whether or not my storyline is deep enough for the song lyrics.


I have gone to my target audience to see there thoughts on some of my ideas of an adapted storyline. I felt my video needed more creativity of shots to show off clever angles when filming.

conclusion of digi pack

After speaking to my teacher i realised that the original picture i chose for my digi pack wasn't good enough. Therefore i looked at other solo female artists to see how i can reflect the same look of there front cover images.

As you can see these album cover all follow the convention of the artist selling themselves and there look. All focus on the face of the artist with a plain background to show there the main focus.

Therefore I shall re shoot my album cover and photos for my digi pak by in keeping with the idea of my artist being the main focus of the frame.

Digi pack

After looking at inspiration for my digi pak, i realised it should relate more to the artist than my music video. Therefore i have done a photo shoot with my artist Kasey fox to try to reflect what the message of the album is instead of the music video itself.I have also looked into Gabriella Aplins English rain digipak to see what hers trys to convey, as i will be wanting to target  a similar audience as her due to using her song.

 

Here are some images from my photo shoot. Like in Gabriella Aplins digi pak i am using the artist as the focus.I have put my artist in no traditional clothing of a dark coat to reflect the sad and relfective mood of the album along the with grey sky and leafless tress.All these photos where to experiment with ways to reflect the idea of the album title amend.
